Embark on an Unforgettable Journey: “The Long Walk to the Zambezi River”

The Journey:
Embark on an epic 50km adventure from Leopards Hill Road, traversing the awe-inspiring Zambezi escarpment. Take in the stunning vistas as you descend through the picturesque Kanyangala School, nestled at the foot of the escarpment, and finally reach the majestic Zambezi River.

  • Day 1: Hike 25km through the scenic escarpment, setting the stage for an unforgettable adventure.
  • Day 2: Conquer the remaining 25km, descending into the stunning Zambezi Valley and reaching the majestic Zambezi River.

Riverfront Relaxation:

  • Day 3: Unwind and recharge at our scenic camp, nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon and take in the breathtaking views. Later, embark on a tranquil Sunset Boat Cruise, witnessing the river’s beauty as the sun dips below the horizon.

The Return Journey:

  • Day 4: Board the bus and head back to Lusaka, with a fascinating stop at the Chirundu Fossil Forest, where you’ll uncover the secrets of Zambia’s ancient past.

Basic Tour Info

Tour Name: 50km Hike to Lower Zambezi

Location: Chiawa Game Management Area

Hiking Distance: 50 km over two days

Hiking Duration: 8 hrs per day

Terrain: Challenging terrain with uneven ground, rocky outcrops, steep inclines, and descents. Varied habitats: woodland, grassland, and riverine sections. Demanding hike requiring good physical fitness and endurance.

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, please note the following:

Safety Precautions

Before embarking on your adventure with Mwaba Mwila Adventures, please ensure you have:
Active medical insurance is crucial in the event of an emergency.
On our hikes, a qualified first aider will be present to provide immediate assistance.
In the unlikely event of a more severe incident requiring evacuation, please note that:
Evacuation logistics and costs are your responsibility. We will assist in facilitating the process, but you must organise and cover further treatment expenses.

Mobile Signal

Please be aware that the mobile signal in the area is patchy and may be nonexistent in some places.

Meals

A basic packed lunch will be provided for the hike. Breakfast and supper will be served in camp. Please bring extra snacks to keep you energised throughout the camp.

For a comfortable and enjoyable hiking experience, please pack your belongings in two separate bags:

Base Camp Bag:

Pack personal belongings for your stay at Base Camp, including clothing, toiletries, and other personal items.

Day Bag: Pack essentials for the day’s hike, such as snacks, water, and sunscreen.

Day 1 Friday 3rd April

05 30 Meet at Manda Hill – Puma Filling Station

06:00 Bus departs from Manda Hill – Puma Filling Station.

07:00 Arrive at the Start point (near Leopards Hill)

07:30 Hike Begins.

Packed lunch en route

16:00 (Approx) Walk ends. Arrival at bush campsite.

19:00 Supper

20:00 Campfire

Day 2 Saturday 4th April

06:00 Breakfast

07:00 Hike to Kwalata Campsite Begins (via Kanyangala School)

15:30 – 18:00 Free time (Showers, free time, etc)

Note:

Please be at Manda Hill Puma filling station by 5:30. The start-off time is 6 hours sharp!

Please know that upon arrival, we will all be required to sign an indemnity form and photo release.
